What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are placed on the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They are typically made of porcelain, resin composite, or glass like materials and are designed to look and feel like natural teeth.
Dental veneers can be used to address a variety of cosmetic dental concerns, including:
Discolored of stained teeth
worn teeth, chipped or broken teeth
Malaligned teeth
Uneven or irregularly shaped teeth
Gaps of spaces between teeth
Steps for fabricating dental veneers
The process of fabricating dental veneers typically involves the following steps:
Consultation and Examination
Dr. Kumar will first examine your teeth and gums to determine if you are a suitable candidate for veneers. He will also discuss with you the goals and expectations for your treatment.
Taking multiple photos and records
Once it has been determined that dental veneers are a good choice for your needs. Dr. Kumar will collect initial veneer records including but not limited to multiple photos, initial impressions of your teeth, jaw joint records (face-bow), and initial bite records. This is an essential step in the planning of your dental veneers which is skipped or overlooked by many clinicians. These records help us to mount your teeth models on an adjustable jaw simulator (Articulator) and develop a wax-up or wax replica of your final treatment outcome. With the help of this simulation, it is easier for us to plan your final outcome including the relationships between your upper and lower teeth.
Teeth Preparation
Dr. Kumar will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of the teeth that will receive the veneers. This is typically done using local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
Temporary Veneers
Dr. Kumar will place temporary veneers on the prepared teeth to protect them while the permanent veneers are being fabricated in one of the best dental labs. All temporary veneers are carefully planned with the help of a template fabricated from your initial wax up in the planning phase of dental veneers mentioned above. It is very important to have satisfactory, well-polished, and correctly trimmed temporaries to protect your teeth preparation along with supporting your gums. If temporaries are not properly trimmed, they may cause severe gum inflammation which can cause problems during final veneers seating.
Veneer Fabrication
At one of the best dental laboratories selected by Dr. Kumar, a skilled technician (master ceramist) will use the impression to create custom-made veneers that match the shape, size, and color of the patient’s natural teeth. In the lab that is used by Avon Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, the technicians use a microscope to fabricate their dental restorations which results in better overall quality restoration including better fitting margins, shade, character, shape, and size of the restoration.
Veneer Cementation
Once the veneers are ready, Dr. Kumar and his team will check their fit and color and make any necessary adjustments. A try-in paste may also be utilized to check the fit of the veneers. Dr. Kumar will then use special dental bonding cement to bond the veneers to the prepared teeth.
Follow-up
Our office will schedule a follow-up appointment to check your bite and ensure that the veneers are functioning properly.
Overall, the process of fabricating dental veneers can take several weeks and typically involves multiple visits to the dentist. However, the result is a natural-looking and durable solution for improving the appearance of a patient’s teeth.
With proper care, dental veneers can last for many years and can significantly improve the appearance of a person’s smile. However, it is important to note that they are not suitable for everyone, and patients should discuss their options with a qualified dentist before undergoing any cosmetic dental treatment.
